A Free Credit Score Report may be obtained from annualcreditreport.com. This website is the only one authorized to provide, (per FCRA) — credit free reports.

Several other websites offer “a free credit score check,” “a freecredit report,” or a way for you to get  “credit score free”. Beware, they are not a part of the legally mandated free credit and score report annual program.

A Free Creditreport May Cost You

Many websites advertise a free credit score report online. In their fine print is the catch. There is a trial period after which free converts to “monthly fee”. Look for this.

Another type of false advertising is carried out subliminally. They place a combination of the words free, credit report or score in their actual site name. For example, www.freecreditreport.com. Upon arrival at the site, you may not identify the trial period properly and thus is added to their paid rolls after it ends.

Some sites are even more more dangerous. They offer products like a three credit report or a free credit report on line to the unsuspecting public. Their goal is simply to phish your personal information to be used in ways you may not believe.
