About Identity Fraud Resources
Clear, concise Identity Theft instructions and explanations, all in one place.
The collections calls started coming. One or two a day. Then slowly building up to as many as nine calls from one number in one day! They used all sorts of gimmicks to try to get you to answer the telephone. They called all times of day and night, everyday. If we checked them against the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, (FDCPA’s), some of these practices are sure to be listed as illegal activities. An example, would be the call we received one Sunday night at 9:05pm. When we informed the debt collector that since it was against the law to call after 9pm, we wanted his name and the business he was calling from to file a complaint, we got silence then a quiet hang-up instead.
After two weeks of this nonsense, we said enough was enough and started taking detailed notes. If we had done this in the first place, we may have spared ourselves a lot of trouble. We asked for company names, contact names and numbers, person they were trying to contact, and the reason they were trying to contact them.
NOTE:Be as courteous as possible and you will probably get the information you need. Remember, if there’s a mistake someplace, it is more than likely not that person’s fault. They are just “doing their jobs”. Secondly, never deny that you are the person responsible for the debt. If you do, chances of you getting anymore information out of the caller are greatly diminished. No one’s asking you to lie, we are simply telling you how we had to conduct ourselves in order to learn everything we could about the problem.
Of course, when you have enough information, you politely say that there has been a mistake and you are going to refer the matter to the correct authorities. You may also ask them to not call you anymore, however, they still do. The only time the calls stop is when they call you at your place of employment and you ask your employer to tell them that you can no longer receive their calls at work.
“Without Identity Theft Protection, your life is literally up for grabs. Don’t mistake the fact that since up to this point your personal information has been safe, this means that it is safe forever.”
You Are An IDTheft Victim, Now What?
We had all this information and now what? We immediately assumed from the variety of debt, that identity theft was probably the root cause. We turned to the internet as we have been conditioned to do, and in our favorite search engine, we typed “identity theft”. Google was proud to let us know that they had found 22 million plus pages that contained our term in .3 second! You can guess what came next. It has probably happened to you at some point in time! We got information overload!
There must be a better way! We just hadn’t found it!
We quickly realized that most web sites addressing the topic of identity theft and identity fraud, were trying to be everything to everyone. Not good!
MENTAL NOTE TO SELF: You know what you were looking for and couldn’t find, you build a better mousetrap! Clear, concise Identity Theft instructions and explanations all in one place. Six months later, here we are, Identity Theft Resources!
Ironically, none of this really mattered in the long run. We remembered at this point that just before the calls started we had enrolled in an Identity Theft Protection Package a friend of ours was promoting. We had enrolled immediately upon seeing it because of one reason. It was really inexpensive. (To be quite honest with you, we were thinking at the time, “You get exactly what you pay for.”) Somewhere along the line we had also felt that the Plan only protected us from NEW identity theft situations. We called them anyway. What did we have to lose?
Surprise, surprise! Since we had opted to have them contact us by mail once a month, we hadn’t receive their statement as yet. The statement did contain one questionable transaction, where a creditor had made an inquiry into our credit history. One of the same people that was calling us everyday! They also informed us that the Plan covered ALL incidents of Identity Theft, as long as we didn’t KNOW about their existenceprior to signing up for it. They are actually able to verify that!
The bottom line, after a few more telephone calls to relay information, they took over. We can only assume that they are quite good at what they do. We do so based on their results. After two weeks of seemingly endless phone calls from rude creditors, the calls suddenly stopped. We also changed our option from once monthly postal mail statements to email statements. Now, anytime anyone goes near our credit report, we immediately get an email asking us if it was an authorized inquiry. Like we mentioned before, they must be really, really good at what they do!
If you would like to learn more about This company, please use our Contact Us Form. They prefer to deal with personal referrals. Their service is available to the public, but because of the referral format, there is a huge difference in the pricing structure, in favor of the referral, of course!
